Deerfield Pond Court Channel Restoration

Great Falls, Virginia

The primary goal of this channel improvement project was to stabilize existing stream banks and reduce erosion that was threatening the integrity of a nearby single-family dwelling.  Located in Great Falls, Virginia, the channel reach had an approximate 104-acre contributing drainage area that had severely degraded the existing bed and banks.  RDA performed topographic and boundary surveys, a complete geomorphic assessment, and prepared the channel improvement plan for an approximate 265 linear foot segment that incorporated natural channel design techniques and toe protection/armoring in the vicinity of the nearby dwelling.  Final design components included imbricated rock weirs, cross vanes, step pools, and a reinforced bed mix.  RDA also prepared a WQIA, maintenance of traffic plans, and construction phasing plans, and provided services during construction including inspections, RFI review, and as-built surveys.
