Woodstream Section 1 Pond Retrofit

This project in Springfield, Virginia, began as a maintenance effort to remove accumulated sediment, repair an existing sediment forebay, and reduce long-term maintenance needs, but evolved during the design phase to increase the hydraulic performance of the facility and provide improvements to reduce long-term maintenance efforts.  Improvements to the pond included design of a new sediment forebay to eliminate erosive velocities through the pond, regrading of the pond floor, replacement of the low-flow control structure, design of grade control structures, and repairs to the emergency spillway.  Hydraulic computations for the approximate 27-acre drainage area were performed and compared to the pond’s original design.  RDA also provided construction oversight/administration services and as-built survey services during construction.
